Known as Thebes in ancient Egypt, Luxor today is split into three distinctive areas: the town of Luxor, the village of Karnak and the Theban necropolis, on the west bank. All three corners are well worth a visit, whether you explore by foot, horse drawn caleche, white-sailed felucca boat or hot air balloon!

For those rare moments when you want to relax, the city's contemporary side provides a wealth of restaurants, cocktail bars and cafes, alongside bustling bazaars to purchase those all important reminders of this fascinating destination.
